New Delhi: OpenAIhas opened its first Indian office in New Delhi, a 50-seat office. The company has also set up the office in conjunction with CorporatEdge, a workspace provider, according to a report by the Economic Times. The relocation is because India has already emerged as the second-largest ChatGPT user base by OpenAI, which in turn indicates the high rate of AI solutions adoption and the rising number of developers in the country.
OpenAI is specifically targeting Delhi, and it is not considering going beyond that to explore nearby areas like Noida or Gurugram. This move is a breakthrough in the international growth plan of OpenAI and how AI-based businesses emerge as key players in the development of commercial real estate in India.
Building a local presence in India
The India expansion is a part of a bigger strategy of OpenAI to reinforce its presence in one of its fastest-growing markets. The company intends to develop a local team that will work closely with the government, developers, and businesses to develop AI-based initiatives. Recently it has introduced the ChatGPT Go plan in India, costing Rs 399/month, which allows more students and professionals to access advanced AI tools.
In August, the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, highlighted the relevance of India, declaring a new office as a significant first step towards AI in India and with India. He observed that the use of ChatGPT in the country has increased fourfold in the last year, which reflects the Indian passion towards generative AI.
