Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, honorary chairman of Oberoi Group, passed away on Tuesday morning. In 2022, the Oberoi Hotels patriarch, popularly known as ‘Bicky’, stepped down from his positions as the Executive Chairman of EIH Limited and Chairman of EIH Associated Hotels Limited. Oberoi is known as the man who completely changed the hospitality industry in India. He was given the honor of Padma Vibhushan for his service towards the country.
His education took place in India, United Kingdom and Switzerland. Oberoi is credited with bringing Oberoi hotels to the international level by opening several luxury hotels in important cities. In 2008, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian honour, for his exceptional service to the country. He established the Oberoi Center of Learning and Development in New Delhi in 1967.
PRS Oberoi served as the former Executive Chairman of EIH Limited, the flagship of the Oberoi Group. According to the Oberoi Group website, in addition to running the management of luxury hotels in various countries, Oberoi played a key role in driving the development of Oberoi Hotels & Resorts. The Oberoi brand is now a symbol of exceptional luxury hotels.
The company said that the last rites of PRS Oberoi will be performed on Tuesday at 4 pm at Bhagwanti Oberoi Charitable Trust, Oberoi Farm, Kapashera. Born on 3 February 1929, PRS Oberoi is the son of late Rai Bahadur MS Oberoi, founder of Oberoi Group.
