Now Jio users will get advance safety warning on the highway, that too in advance…

Reliance Jio and NHAI have signed an agreement for the safety of passengers on the highway. Under this, Jio 4G/5G users will get warnings about accident prone areas and other dangers on their mobile. These alerts will be sent through SMS and WhatsApp.

New Delhi: Reliance Jio users will now get safety warnings on their mobile phones while driving on the highway. The company has signed an agreement with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for the security of its 4G and 5G users. Under this agreement, a telecom-based safety alert system will be created on the entire National Highway Network. In this, passengers will get warnings on their mobile phones when they approach risky places like accident prone places, areas with stray animals, foggy areas and emergency diversions.

NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav said, “This initiative is an important step towards providing timely and reliable information to the passengers. This will enable them to take informed decisions and adopt safe driving habits. I am confident that this initiative will set a new standard in technology-enabled road safety management on the National Highways.”

Users will get dangerous warnings about highways in advance.

Alerts will be sent to national highway users through SMS, WhatsApp and high-priority calls. This system will be integrated with NHAI’s digital platforms, such as ‘RajmargYatra’ mobile application and emergency helpline number 1033, in a phase wise manner. This automated system will work for all Jio Mobile users located on or near the National Highway. This will warn the people traveling on the National Highway before entering any dangerous area. The solution will use existing telecom towers and can be quickly deployed without any additional roadside hardware, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement.

NHAI will send messages to Jio’s 50 crore subscribers

NHAI will leverage the digital infrastructure of Jio, which serves more than 50 crore subscribers in the country. Jyotindra Thakar, President, Reliance Jio, said, “This initiative utilizes Jio’s telecom network to provide timely safety alerts at scale, making travel on national highways more safe and informed. Initially, the pilot deployment of this initiative will help in identifying risk areas and setting thresholds for alerts under some regional offices of NHAI. This initiative will fully comply with all applicable regulatory rules and data-protection requirements. NHAI will make similar efforts with other telecom service providers also.
