Nanded Lok Sabha By Election Result 2024 LIVE Updates: BJP and Congress clash on Nanded seat, counting of votes continues

Counting of votes is taking place in the by-election for Nanded Lok Sabha seat of Maharashtra. This seat has become vacant due to the death of Congress MP Vasantrao Chavan. Congress MP Vasantrao Chavan died in August 2024, just two months after the Lok Sabha elections. Congress has made his son Ravindra Chavan its candidate. Whereas BJP has fielded Dr. Santuk Humbarde.

Congress had won in the Lok Sabha elections

Earlier, in the Lok Sabha elections held in April-May, there was a contest between BJP’s outgoing MP Prataprao Patil Chikhlikar and Congress candidate Vasant Chavan for the Nanded Lok Sabha seat. Vasant Chavan had won by a margin of 59,442 votes. Vasant got 5,28,894 votes in the election, while Prataprao Patil Chikhlikar got 4,69,452 votes. Nanded is one of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state and is also a district.

In the parliamentary elections of 2019, this seat went to BJP’s account and Prataprao Govindrao Chikhlikar became MP. Chikhalkar got 486,806 votes while Congress’s Ashok Chavan got 4,46,658 votes.

There are 6 assembly seats under Nanded. Lok Sabha elections were held on this seat for the first time in 1952, when Congress candidate Shankarrao Telkikar had won. Then in the 1957 elections, Congress gave ticket to Devrao Namdevrao Kamble and he emerged victorious. In 1962, Tulsidas Jadhav of Congress won. In the 1967 elections, Congress changed its candidate from here and fielded Venkatrao Tirodkar and he too was victorious.
