In the last 10 years, India has not only become the hub of mobile manufacturing. In fact, now it is also challenging China in terms of exports. Former CEO of NITI Aayog, Amitabh Kant has shared many interesting facts related to this.

Amitabh Kant was also recently made the Sherpa of the G20 Summit. He has contributed a lot in making many programs of the Government of India such as ‘Incredible India’ for tourism and Startup India and Make in India successful.

100% ‘Made in India’ sold in India

Amitabh Kant says that all the phones sold in the Indian market in 2023 have been completely manufactured in the country. In 2022 this figure was 98 percent. India will produce 27 crore mobile handsets in the year 2023. Whereas in 2014, India imported 81 percent of its mobile phone needs from China.

World’s second largest mobile manufacturer

India is now the second largest mobile manufacturing country in the world. Because of this he is constantly challenging China. Not only this, India has produced 2 billion mobile handsets from 2014 to 2022. About 20 percent of mobile handsets manufactured in India are exported to other countries. Mobile manufacturing in India is expected to grow at an annual growth rate of 23% between 2014 and 2022.

It is worth noting that assembly and manufacturing of brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo is already happening in India. Recently Apple has also started manufacturing iPhone in India. Not only this, apart from iPhone, Apple is also considering transferring the manufacturing of its other devices to India. The Government of India has also launched PLI scheme, which will make India a bigger hub in mobile manufacturing in the coming days.
