36-year-old Pratima, who runs a beauty parlor in Ajekar in Karkala taluk of Karnataka, has been accused of murdering her husband with the help of her lover. Police have arrested Pratima and her lover Dilip Hegde (28), resident of Hiragana, Karkala and are interrogating both of them. According to the information received from the police, during interrogation, Pratima has revealed how she killed her husband.
During interrogation, Pratima told that on October 20, she and Dilip had first given poison in the food of her husband Balkrishna (44) and later strangulated him to death. Balkrishna was suffering from fever and vomiting 25 days before his death. In such a situation, Pratima told that Balkrishna had jaundice and hence she took him to a hospital in Karkala, but later she killed her husband. It was also shown that Balkrishna died due to ill health. However, police investigation revealed that Balkrishna did not die of illness but was murdered.
Brother had expressed doubt on death
Balakrishna’s brother Ramakrishna and Pratima’s brother Sandeep had expressed doubt over his death. Police said that wife Pratima gradually weakened her husband by giving him slow poison and then took him to the hospital on the pretext of treatment and killed him. According to the information, Pratima used to feed rice to her husband Balkrishna by mixing arsenic trioxide, a chemotherapy drug given for blood cancer. This medicine has no taste.

Pratima was giving poison to Balakrishna by mixing rice in it for the last one and a half month. One day Balakrishna’s health suddenly deteriorated due to eating poisonous rice, after which he was admitted to the hospital, where he strangulated Balakrishna to death.
