Panic spread on the highway in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday night when a retired soldier opened fire on a mini tourist bus. At that time, the retired soldier was bleeding so much that he kept firing continuously. A college student has also been injured by the bullet. The incident took place in Pallavapuram area on National Highway-58.
According to the information, the car of retired soldier Nitin Sirohi collided with another bike near the flyover. Angered by this, the soldier started firing from his official pistol. At the same time, he also opened fire on a mini tourist bus returning from Haridwar. According to the police, the retired soldier’s car collided with the Zomato delivery boy’s bike.
While the retired soldier was scolding the delivery boy, the tourist bus coming from Haridwar stopped there. The students traveling on the bus then took the side of the delivery boy, due to which the angry retired soldier threatened the students and took out his official pistol and fired indiscriminately at their bus. In this firing, the bullet went out touching a student.
The students present in the bus somehow saved their lives by hiding. There was a stampede after hearing the sound of gunshots on the highway. The retired soldier fired about 5 rounds and continued firing until his pistol became empty. During the firing, there was a stampede nearby and the students sitting in the bus also started screaming and running to save their lives.
Police took action
Pallavapuram police station reached the spot and took soldier Nitin Sirohi into custody. Investigation of the incident is ongoing. Deputy SP Suchita Singh said that after receiving the information, the police arrested the accused with immediate effect. A case has been registered against the accused and the government pistol has also been seized.
Panic among eyewitnesses
People present on the highway at the time of the accident said that the incident was very horrifying. There is an atmosphere of fear among the passengers traveling with children after this incident. The police have assured that the matter will be investigated impartially and strict action will be taken against the culprit. Injured student Harsh is undergoing treatment in the local hospital. However, the student’s condition is now out of danger.
