New Delhi: Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne praised his captain Pat Cummins for his bowling performance in the World Cup 2023 final match against India.
He said that he had never seen someone bowl like the manner Cummins did to halt the Indian innings at 240. Australia chased down the target with the help of Labuscahgne and centurion Travis Head and won the game by six wickets for a record-extending sixth World Cup title.
Cummins was the bowler with the best economy rate (3.40) in his 10-over quota. He bagged the wickets of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer and made it worse for the Indian team and the crowd that was huge in numbers to support India. Talking to Sen Radio, Labuschagne said that he thinks it was certainly the best day for Cummins with the ball.
Labuschagne lavishes praise on Cummins and McDonald
“I think I’ve never seen someone bowl the sequence he did, bowling the right balls at the right time that he did. I haven’t seen that from a middle-overs bowler, a pace bowler, especially in a long time. A lot of credit has to go to him,” reckoned Labuchagne, who scored a decent half-century during the chase. He also praised the head coach Andrew McDonald and the team analyst for preparing the blueprint that can put India under pressure.
The plan was to bag five wickets until 30 overs and the Australian bowlers did the exact same, he said and also added that the coach had complete trust in the players which created a great environment in the dressing room. He found Cummins and McDonald to be working really well together. “I mean his coaching record speaks for itself, and from a team perspective, all players respect his ability as a coach,” he said.
