Mahindra EV production to surge to 8,000 units per month by March next year

New Delhi: Mahindra have added another stallion to their EV lineup with the XEV 9S, and the brand now has four EVs on sale, including the XEV 9e, BE 6 and XUV400. During the launch of SEV 9S, Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director at Mahindr,a had said that plans to increase the monthly production capacity for EVs from 4000-5000 units to 8000 units by the end of FY2026.

Mahindra’s EVs are made at the brand’s Chakan facility, which has a total production capacity of 10,000 units a month. Jejurikar said that they will keep operating capacity to 8000 units in a month by March 2026. This would ensure that the supply chain vendor ecosystem and workforce are ready to work consistently at that pace.

With the new XEV 9S, the brand is confident that their EV sales volume will increase quite well. Mahindra feels that by 2028, about 20-25 per cent of their overall sales will be from EVs.

Mahindra, though, haven’t given a number of how the increased production will be allocated in the born-electric models except that it will be based on demand. Both Mahindra have made some serious additions to their EV portfolio in recent times. With the XEV 9e, the two brands are now directly competing in the EV off-roader market at the entry level.
