Only four days are left for voting for the assembly elections in Maharashtra. Voting will be held on 20 November. This is the reason why all the security agencies along with the police remain alert just before voting. In view of this, the police is checking at various places. Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has recovered eight thousand kilos of silver from a truck, whose value is said to be around Rs 80 crore. The Income Tax and Election Commission team is investigating the matter by taking the truck driver into custody.
According to the police, Mankhurd police had set up a blockade near Vashi check post. Where every small and big vehicle passing through was being searched. Just then a truck passed by and was stopped due to suspicion. When the truck was searched by the police officers, everyone was shocked.
Silver worth crores recovered from truck
When the gates behind the truck were opened, even the police were surprised. This is because the entire truck was filled with silver. When this silver was weighed, it was found that the total weight was 8,476 kg. The market price of this much silver is approximately Rs 79 crore 78 lakh 21 thousand 972. Seeing such a large amount of silver, the police immediately detained the driver and started questioning.
Income Tax and Election Commission team engaged in investigation
The driver will be interrogated to find out from whom and where he brought the silver. Who was it going to deliver to and where? The Income Tax and Election Commission team is investigating the entire matter. Initial investigation has expressed suspicion that this silver was being transported illegally. Police has made it clear that strict action will be taken in cases of smuggling of illegal property. If valid documents of this silver are not presented then it will be confiscated.
