83 year old Sharad Pawar is famous for surprising people with his decisions in politics from Maharashtra to the country. Senior Pawar has once again surprised everyone in seat sharing of Mahavikas Aghadi. Despite having the least support base among the three parties, Sharad Pawar’s party has got equal number of seats.
After Sharad Pawar got 85 seats under the agreement, the question is arising that how did Pawar succeed in doing this and what does Pawar want to achieve through this?
Is Pawar eyeing the CM chair?
A discussion is going on very fast about Sharad Pawar who has lost 85 seats from the alliance. It is being said whether Sharad Pawar is eyeing the Chief Minister’s chair? There are two big reasons for this discussion-
1. Sharad Pawar’s party had the highest strike rate of victory in the Maharashtra Lok Sabha elections. NCP (Sharad), which fielded candidates on 9 seats, won on 8. If seen from this strike rate, Sharad Pawar’s party can win 60-70 seats. If this happens, then Pawar’s claim for the post of CM may be the strongest.
2. Sharad Pawar had recently discussed the CM chair through Jayant Patil in a rally. This time Pawar is not even announcing the name of the Chief Minister before the elections. An incident from the 2004 elections is being told behind this. In 2004, Pawar had announced to become the Congress Chief Minister before the elections. In 2004, NCP got 2 more seats than Congress. Despite this, Pawar gave the CM’s chair to Congress.
Sharad Pawar family has not had the chair of CM for 30 years. Last time Sharad Pawar was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1993 to 1995.
If given a chance, who will get the CM’s chair?
This is also discussed in political circles. Baramati MP Supriya Sule is Sharad Pawar’s daughter. When Ajit Pawar had rebelled, he had said that I am not a son, hence I was not allowed to become the Chief Minister.
The way Sharad Pawar is laying the political chessboard right now, it is being said that if the keys to power come into the hands of Pawar in the future, then the way can open for Supriya to become the CM.
There is also a discussion in the political circles that Sharad Pawar can keep the CM’s chair for himself. The reason for this is betrayal by loved ones. Pawar has recently had to face betrayal by his nephew and confidants.
Actually, this time there is a gap of only 3 days between the results in Maharashtra and the end of the term of Maharashtra Assembly. In such a situation, the parties will not be able to negotiate much during this period.
The way there has been a dispute between Shiv Sena (Uddhav) and Congress on seat sharing. It has made Sharad Pawar even stronger.
When did Sharad Pawar surprise you?
Sharad Pawar, who formed the Nationalist Congress Party in 1999 in opposition to the Congress, formed an alliance with the Congress in 2004. Sharad Pawar was made cabinet minister in the Congress government. Even if we leave aside the history before 2004, there were many such occasions in the last 20 years when Pawar surprised everyone politically.
In 2006, for the first time, Pawar launched his daughter Supriya into politics. At that time his nephew Ajit was not even aware of this. When Ajit rebelled, he brought Supriya into national politics. In 2009, when there was talk of Supriya becoming a minister, Agatha Sangma of North-East was made a cabinet minister from her quota.
In 2010, Ajit Pawar was handed over the post of Deputy CM in Maharashtra, bypassing senior leaders. Congress and NCP alliance lost in 2014 elections. BJP became the largest party, but missed the absolute majority.
Ally Shiv Sena started bargaining. To end Shiv Sena’s bargaining chip, Sharad Pawar gave unconditional support from outside. Ultimately Shiv Sena joined NDA. In 2019, when no party got majority, BJP again got hope from NCP.
There was also news of Sharad Pawar meeting big leaders of BJP, but Pawar put Uddhav in front. Pawar joined the government along with Uddhav. In 2023, when nephew put pressure, Pawar announced his resignation. Ajit was shocked by this move of Pawar.
Keep an eye on Ajit-Uddhav’s political decisions
After the elections, political decisions of Ajit Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray will also be monitored. After 3 years, Uddhav’s party broke up. Ajit had become a rebel two years ago. Uddhav was in alliance with BJP before Mahavikas Aghadi. Similarly, Ajit was in Congress alliance with his uncle.
It is being said that both the political birds may be flying in the sky right now, but there are chances of both of them returning home.
