E-rickshaw travel is becoming the main means of transportation in people’s lives. Due to its operation, people have started saving a lot of time. Compared to normal rickshaws, traveling in an e-rickshaw is very comfortable, but the government has now made it difficult for people to sit in an e-rickshaw. Where earlier the e-rickshaw fare per kilometer was Rs 5 per kilometre, now it has been increased to Rs 8.30 per kilometre.
E-rickshaws are used to provide better and cheaper facilities to the people, but now the Uttar Pradesh government has increased the fare of e-rickshaw in the capital Lucknow. Now traveling in e-rickshaw has become much more expensive than before. The impact of this decision of the government will be felt directly in the lives of the people. In this regard, the Principal Secretary has written a letter to many officials including the Commissioner of the Transport Department.
E-rickshaw fare becomes Rs 8.30 per kilometer
The Principal Secretary has issued a notification, in which he has given information about the increased fares. In the notification, it is written that the maximum fare per kilometer of e-rickshaw will be fixed at Rs 8.30. On one hand, rickshaw pullers are going to enjoy this decision. On the other hand, for the common people living in Lucknow, the journey will become more difficult than before. Information has been given in the notification that by March 2024, about six and a half lakh e-rickshaws were registered in the entire state. Now their number has increased even more.
How much was the rent earlier?
In Uttar Pradesh, many rickshaws are roaming on the roads without registration. Principal Secretary of Transport Department, L Venkateswara Lu has issued a notification, in which he has informed that this decision has been taken while exercising the powers under sub-section one of Section 67 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988. The maximum fare for e-rickshaws operated as contract vehicles of the State Transport Authority has been fixed at Rs 8.30 per kilometer, which was earlier Rs 5 per kilometer. However, this fare was not fixed by the government.
