No. 1 Ranked Tennis Star Jannik Sinner ‘Down With A Virus’, Withdraws From Paris Masters

Top-seeded Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Paris Masters, citing a virus. The Italian player, who is guaranteed to finish the year as number one, stated in a message that he will be unable to play this week.

“This is not an easy announcement to make. My team and I arrived early to prepare as best as possible, but unfortunately, I started feeling unwell during training and saw the doctor on Sunday. It turns out I’ve come down with a virus. I’m feeling better now, but I’m still not ready to compete here in Paris. I was really looking forward to this tournament, so it’s disappointing, to say the least. For now, I’m focusing on recovery and getting back to 100%. I’ll be aiming to come back stronger for Turin!” Sinner tweeted on ‘X’ [Formerly Twitter].

Jannik Sinner is the second high-profile player to withdraw from the final Masters 1000 event of the year, following seven-time champion Novak Djokovic.

The World Number One defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win the Shanghai Masters earlier this month, giving the Italian a tour-leading seventh title this season. Sinner became the first man to win more than six titles in a single season since Andy Murray won nine in 2016. The Italian tennis star’s victory came after losing the final of the China Open in Beijing to Carlos Alcaraz and amid an ongoing doping investigation.
