The retention system this season is a little flexible and the upcoming auction is a mini one. The franchises are free to retain as many players as they like – whether its Indian or overseas. Each squad needs to have a maximum of 25 players and each team will be operating under INR 120 crore salary purse.

The deadline for announcing the retentions for IPL 2026 is November 15 (Saturday) and the final list is expected to be revealed around 5PM IST. The official date for IPL auction is still not confirmed but it has been reported that the auction will take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi.
