IND vs NZ: ICC responded on the pitch controversy, told who made the change and why?

Everyone was waiting for the first semi-final of the World Cup 2023 between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Even before the action started on the field, a ruckus started outside it. The reason for the chaos was the Wankhede pitch, which was changed before the match. An English newspaper revealed that for this match, instead of the previously decided fresh pitch, a pitch that had been used in two matches would be used. Since then, allegations are being leveled against the Board of Control for Cricket in India and ICC. Now ICC has given its answer in this matter.

A report in the English newspaper Daily Mail had revealed that the pitch fixed for the India-New Zealand semi-final match was changed. It has been reported in the report that before the tournament, ICC’s pitch consultant for the World Cup, Andy Atkinson, in collaboration with the pitch curator of Mumbai Cricket Association and BCCI, had decided pitch number 7 for this semi-final match to be held at Wankhede Stadium. No other match was scheduled on this pitch.

ICC’s answer, questions raised on its own man!

The report claims that the MCA curators took the decision to change the pitch after the request of BCCI and the Indian team management. Atkinson alleged that this was done without informing him. Now an official statement has come from ICC in this matter. The ICC has said that in such long events, it is normal for changes in the already decided plan regarding pitch rotation and it had already happened twice.

ICC also said that this change was made in consultation with the venue’s curator and host board. Not only this, ICC also distanced itself from the claim of its independent pitch consultant Andy Atkinson and said that he too was informed about it. ICC also expressed hope that there is no reason for such doubts that the pitch will not behave well.

First 2 matches played

The pitch of Wankhede Stadium which was chosen for this match, had already played two matches on it and big scores were made in both the matches. Earlier South Africa had scored 399 runs against England. Then Team India scored 357 runs against Sri Lanka. Both the teams won these matches by huge margins.
