Good news is coming from Germany, according to a report by Bertelsmann Stiftung, Germany will need 2 lakh 88 thousand workers every year. In fact, due to increasing age in Germany, there is a shortage of labor force, due to which Germany has to depend on foreign migrant workers.
According to the report, Germany will need an average of 2 lakh 88 thousand workers every year by 2040 to maintain the labor force. This report also states that if there is not a significant increase, especially among women and older workers, Germany may need 3 lakh 68 thousand immigrants every year.
The increased demand for workers in Germany is reminiscent of the year 2000, in the last decade, due to the conflict in Syria and Ukraine, the migration rate in Germany had reached 6 lakhs and its effect was seen on the labor market around the world.
Why is the demand for workers increasing in Germany?
There are many reasons behind the increasing demand for workers in Germany, the biggest reason being that a large population there is aging and its retirement age is near. Along with this, the Baby Boomers generation (people born from 1946 to 1964) are exiting the workforce. Due to which the work force in Germany is decreasing rapidly and its effect has started becoming visible on the country’s economy.
There are elections in Germany next year
Elections are to be held in Germany next year, in such a situation the issue of immigrant workers is hot in Germany. For this reason, political parties, including leftist parties, are demanding to limit the increasing number of refugees. On the other hand, Suzanne Schultz, a migration expert at Bertelsmann Stiftung, told Bloomberg that the workforce shortage in Germany is going to increase due to the retirement of baby boomers, due to which the demand for immigrant workers will increase rapidly.
There are many possibilities in Germany
Germany’s economic stability and growth prospects may attract foreign workers and help them stay in Germany, but the growing number of immigrants may remain in the news in the coming days amid social and political opposition.
