The air quality in Delhi is going from bad to worse. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded above 400 on Thursday morning. In view of the pollution situation, the Delhi government can completely ban the entry of all passenger buses in the national capital except CNG, electric and BS-6 diesel buses.
GRAP-IV rules are currently in force in Delhi amid deteriorating air quality. At present there is a ban on entry of only trucks in Delhi. According to a source of news agency PTI, “Chhath Puja is near and due to this, huge crowd is being seen in the city. In such a situation, the government is planning to implement restrictions after the festival.”
Last month, the Delhi government had directed that only those buses coming from Haryana to Delhi which would be running on electric, CNG or BS-VI diesel would be given entry. As per government instructions, the same rule was implemented for buses entering Delhi from NCR areas of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The Transport Department of Delhi Government said that from July 1, only those buses coming to Delhi from any city or town of Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh will be allowed to enter Delhi which will run on electric, CNG and BS-VI diesel. There is a plan to implement the same rules for buses coming from all states in Delhi.
To overcome poisonous air and control pollution, the Kejriwal government has banned construction work and entry of diesel trucks in the city. Many other strict restrictions have also been imposed. Despite this, Delhi’s air quality has declined in the last few days. To ensure that the restrictions are not violated, 40 teams are deployed by the government in the border areas from 8 pm to 4 am.
