During the hearing of an ongoing case regarding lack of basic facilities in government schools of Haryana, the High Court has strongly reprimanded the Education Department by imposing a fine of Rs 5 lakh. The High Court said that on one hand the Haryana government is running big campaigns citing the Swachh Bharat Mission, but 538 schools of Haryana do not have basic facilities like toilets for girls.
The High Court has directed the Education Department of Haryana Government to give a limited plan for providing basic facilities in schools within a week. During the next hearing of the case on December 15, the Chief Secretary of Haryana and the Director of School Education of the Education Department have been directed to personally appear before the court.
In fact, the school girls of Balu village of Kaithal, Haryana had filed a petition through their lawyer in the Punjab-Haryana High Court regarding the lack of basic facilities in the school. During the hearing on which the High Court summoned the data of the entire state from the Haryana Government and during this, it was revealed in the affidavit given by the Haryana Government that 538 schools of the state do not have toilets for girls.
No toilets for boys in 1047 schools in Haryana
In the affidavit, Haryana government said that 131 schools do not have the facility of drinking water. There is no electricity connection in 236 schools. 538 schools do not have toilets for girls and 1047 schools do not have toilets for boys. Apart from this, the High Court was told that there is a need of 8240 class rooms for the children in the government schools of Haryana.
