Government strict on pollution in Delhi, instructions to control biomass burning and vehicle pollution

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Friday held a review meeting with officials of the Environment Department and DPCC in view of pollution. After this, he said that according to scientists, 36 percent of vehicle pollution and 31 percent of biomass burning contribute to the current air pollution in Delhi. Therefore, instructions have been given to the Transport Department and Delhi Police to strictly enforce the ban on Grape-3. Besides, instructions have been given to all concerned departments to run a special campaign to stop biomass burning.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that vehicular pollution, biomass burning and dust are the reasons behind the increase in pollution levels in winter. Along with this, wind speed reduces in winter. When there is a change in metrological condition. Then the wind speed decreases and the wind direction changes.

He said that during the meeting, scientists told that currently 36 percent of vehicle pollution and 31 percent of biomass burning contribute to the pollution of Delhi and NCR. He said that under GRP-3, there is a ban on operation of BS 3 petrol and BS 4 diesel LMVs (4 wheelers). If anyone violates this, a fine of Rs 20 thousand will be imposed under the Motor Vehicles Act-1988.

Police and administration ordered for strict monitoring

He said that for this, 84 teams have been deployed by the Transport Department. Also, 284 teams of Delhi Police have been deployed. Transport Department and Delhi Police have been ordered to strictly monitor.

Minister Gopal Rai said that there has been a slight increase in the pollution situation in Delhi today. Therefore, it was discussed in the meeting that since the incidence of stubble burning has reduced, why is pollution increasing?

Campaign will run against biomass burning

He said that the first decision has been taken that the ban imposed on BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel vehicles under Grape-3. Instructions have been issued to the transport department and traffic police to strictly enforce it.

Secondly, with increasing winters, incidents of biomass burning are increasing at various places, to prevent which all concerned departments, especially MCD, Revenue, NDMC, Delhi Containment Board, DDA etc. have been ordered to run a special campaign to stop biomass burning.

Minister Gopal Rai said that the pollution situation will remain like this for two-three days. After this, there is a possibility of continuous improvement in the pollution situation. He appealed to the people of Delhi that if they see anyone creating pollution anywhere, they should complain about it on the Green Delhi app.
