End of an era: Rohan Bopanna announces retirement after 20-year tennis career

New Delhi: Indian tennis legend Rohan Bopanna on Saturday officially announced his retirement from professional tennis, bringing an emotional close to a stellar 20-year career. The two-time Grand Slam doubles champion reflected on his journey in a heartfelt statement, calling it “a goodbye… but not the end,” and describing the sport as something that gave his life purpose, strength and belief.

Bopanna traced his rise from the small town of Coorg, recalling the early days of chopping wood to strengthen his serve, jogging through coffee estates to build stamina and playing on cracked courts while chasing a dream. From those humble beginnings to competing under the brightest lights on the biggest stages in the world, the 44-year-old expressed a deep sense of gratitude and pride, particularly for the honour of representing India at the highest level.
