DRDO: How will the pilot’s life be saved if the plane crashes? DRDO successfully tested escape system

DRDO successfully tests ‘Indigenous Escape System’ for fighter jet. A high-speed rocket-sled test was conducted in Chandigarh at a speed of 800 kilometers per hour, in which the dummy pilot was ejected safely. This system is reliable even in bad conditions.

DRDO Successfully Test Escape System: Another new achievement has been added to India’s name in the defense sector. Actually, DRDO has successfully tested the ‘Indigenous Escape System’ which saved the life of the pilot during a fighter jet crash. During testing, this system completed the task of safely ejecting the dummy pilot from the aircraft.

Testing done at control speed of 800 kilometers per hour

The Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has conducted a successful high-speed rocket-sled test of the fighter aircraft escape system. This test demonstrated that the pilot-ejection mechanism functions properly and safely even in extreme conditions. The test was conducted at a precisely controlled speed of 800 km/h at the Rail Track Rocket Sled (RTRS) facility of the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) in Chandigarh, the ministry said in a social media post along with a video.

How will this mechanism take the pilot out safely?

The video clip shared by the Defense Ministry shows a staged test, where the system pulled a dummy pilot out of the cockpit and landed him safely through a parachute. The video shows how this mechanism will ensure safe ejection when a fighter jet is in a life-threatening situation. According to the Defense Ministry, the trial completed the three essential parts of the modern escape system – canopy severance, ejection sequencing and complete aircrew recovery.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said milestone

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, Indian Air Force, ADA, HAL and industry partners on this success. Also described it as an important milestone, which will strengthen India’s indigenous defense capabilities. It is also an example of India’s increasing self-reliance in defense technology.
