Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], November 23 (Desk): After Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi took a major lead from Wayanad seat, DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi on Saturday expressed her joy saying that she is very happy because one more very strong woman voice will now sit in the opposition benches in Parliament.
Speaking to Desk, Kanimozhi said, “I am very happy because one more very strong woman voice in the opposition benches in Parliament. It is very good for democracy and I am very happy about this.”
Reacting to the trends of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Kanimozhi said that it is the people’s verdict and they accept that in the democracy.
She said, “In democracy, its people’s verdict and what they decide, so we had two states going for elections, one went BJP way one went other way, this is what people have decided and accept that in the democracy…”
Congress leader Mumtaz Patel also welcomed Priyanka Gandhi’s landslide victory in Wayanad saying “good news is we will now see Priyanka in Parliament.”
Patel also expressed grief over the performance of the Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra, saying that it is saddening to see the results coming from the state.
Speaking to Desk, Congress leader Mumtaz Patel said, “The good news is that we will now see Priyanka ji in Parliament with a landslide victory in Wayanad. The party is leading in both Gujarat and all 3 seats in Karnataka in bypolls. Our alliance is also leading in Jharkhand. It is saddening to see the results coming from Maharashtra. On this occasion, I remember my father Ahmed Patel because Maha Vikas Aghadi was his brainchild.”
“Ahmed Patel used to say and do things with seriousness. He used to make decisions by taking everyone along. Like he used to do, there is a need for people who only think about the interest of the party and keep personal interests behind,” she added.
As per EC data, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is leading by more than 6 lakh votes in the Wayanad constituency, and is poised to retain the Congress stronghold seat which was earlier vacated by her brother, Lok sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. She is contesting against BJP’s Navya Haridas. Communist Party of India’s also contested the seat, with candidate Sathyan Mokeri.
As per the election commission of India, the Mahayuti alliance is leading in 218 seats, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 2 seats and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) 1, as of 1 PM. Whereas the Maha Vikas Agadhi is only leading in 47 seats, with Congress being the leading party in MVA alliance, having a lead in only 20 seats. (Desk)
