Delhi Airport T3 Fire News: Was the fire near the plane at Delhi Airport T3 the result of some gross negligence? Flames suddenly erupted in an empty bus of AISATS company, the fire team averted a major accident in a few seconds. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
New Delhi. A major accident was averted at Terminal 3 (T3) of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on Tuesday afternoon. At around 1 pm, a CNG bus of AISATS Ground Handling Company suddenly caught fire. This bus was standing very close to an aircraft. Within a few seconds the bus burst into flames, but the saving grace was that there were no passengers present in the bus at that time. The airport authorities immediately issued an alert and the ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting) team present at the spot took immediate action. The fire was brought under control in just 2-3 minutes, thereby averting a major accident.
Was it a technical fault or the result of negligence?
At present the cause of the fire has not been known. DCP IGI Vichitra Veer said that as soon as information about the fire was received, teams of fire tender, CISF and airport police reached the spot. Preliminary investigation has revealed that only the driver was present in the bus and he too escaped safely.

Now technical inspection of the bus is being done so that the exact cause of the fire can be known. Officials have expressed apprehension that CNG leak or electrical fault could be the reason, but this will be confirmed only after the investigation is completed.
Impact on the safety of aircraft and passengers?
In a video viral on social media, it was seen that the bus was parked just a few meters away from an Air India plane. However, Delhi Airport Authority (DIAL) has clarified that no airport operations were affected and all flights continued to operate normally. “Our expert team immediately brought the fire under control. The bus was empty at the time of the incident and no one was injured. The safety of passengers and staff is our top priority,” he said in the statement.

Have such incidents happened before?
This is not the first time that a ground handling vehicle has caught fire. In the last few months, minor accidents due to technical faults have occurred at many airports in the country. However, this time the situation was serious because the fire broke out very close to the plane.
Can there be new revelations in the investigation?
No case of negligence or conspiracy has come to light so far. But IGI Police has said that only after the CCTV footage and technical report comes, it will be decided whether it was a normal fault or an accident due to someone’s mistake.
