David Alonso remains unstoppable and sets new Moto3 lap record in Buriram

David Alonso hasn’t slowed down since becoming the Moto3 world champion, dominating the first day of the Thai GP this Friday with a new lap record in Buriram.

In free practice, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar rider was the only one to clock a lap in the 1m40s, surpassing Ángel Piqueras (Leopard Racing/Honda) by 0.525s. He set a new record for the category at the Thai circuit with a time of 1m40.544s.

Expectations were high for the afternoon session – which counts toward direct qualification for the second qualifying. Though he didn’t improve his time, Alonso maintained his dominance.

Once again, the Colombian was the only rider to record a time in the 1m40s, setting the fastest lap on his last attempt. Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports/KTM) was second, 0.385s behind, followed by Adrián Fernández (Leopard Racing/Honda).

The top five was rounded out by Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) and Collin Veijer. The Dutch rider from Liqui Moly Husqvarna led for more than 20 consecutive minutes but ultimately couldn’t keep up with the pace of his rivals in the final moments of the session.
