New Delhi: As many as 350 cricketers, including 240 Indians, will go under the hammer at the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi on December 16. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) removed 1,005 names from the longlist and added 35 new names, including South African wicket-keeper batter Quinton de Kock. The players were added to the list even though they were not on the original list of players for the auction. The BCCI has reduced the final list to 350 players (111 capped and 267 uncapped players).
De Kock, who recently reversed his ODI retirement, has been kept at a base price of Rs 1 crore. The list also comprises Australian batter Steve Smith, who last played in the IPL in 2021, at a base price of Rs 2 crore.
A total of 1,390 players registered for the Player Auction, but that number was reduced to 1,005. BCCI eventually shortlisted 350 names who will battle for the 77 slots available, including 31 for overseas players, across the 10 franchises for the 2026 edition of the world’s biggest T20 league.
The first set of players consists of Mumbai batters Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan. Both batters, who have recently hit a rough patch, have kept their base price at Rs 75 lakh each. Shaw was an IPL regular from 2018 to 2024 but went unsold in the auction for the last edition. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz has featured in the premier competition since 2021.
The list also includes two Australians – Cameron Green and Jake Fraser-McGurk. New Zealand opener Devon Conway, who previously played for the Chennai Super Kings and South Africa’s David Miller have kept a base price of Rs 2 crore.
Venkatesh Iyer, who was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after the team acquired the player for a massive price of Rs 23.75 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, has listed himself at a base price of Rs 2 crore.
Among domestic stars, Kunal Chandela and Ashok Kumar, the leading run-getters and wicket-takers respectively in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, also feature in the final list.
Three-time winners KKR have the biggest purse of Rs 64.3 crores, while five-time champions CSK have a remaining purse of Rs 43.4 crores. 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad go into the auction with the third-highest purse of Rs 25.5 crores.
Heavy presence of England and Australian players
The auction will see 21 England players going under the hammer. The list includes wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith, pacer Gus Atkinson, Liam Livingstone and Test opener Ben Duckett.
Green, who is likely to trigger a bidding war at the auction, leads the list of 19 Australians, including Josh Inglis, Matthew Short, Cooper Connolly and Beau Webster.
De Kock and Miller are among the 15 South African players in the auction, along with pacers Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Gerald Coetzee and all-rounder Wiaan Mulder.
Nine West Indies players, including Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Ackeem Auguste, Shai Hope and Roston Chase, among others, will feature in the auction.
A dozen Sri Lankan players, including Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, and Kusal Perera, have been included in the list.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Naveen ul Haq are among 10 players from Afghanistan who will feature in the auction.
