The issue of bus marshals has once again come into limelight in Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has written a letter to LG Vinay Kumar Saxena demanding restoration of the appointment of marshals with immediate effect. CM Atishi has also given an offer to Delhi’s opposition leader Vijendra Gupta for the appointment of marshals.
Before the assembly elections to be held next year, a round of allegations and counter-allegations is expected to start once again between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor on this issue.
10 thousand people were fired in one sign
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi alleged that the LG fired more than 10 thousand marshals by signing an order in October. Atishi told that LG says that he did this on the request of Arvind Kejriwal, but this is not correct.
Because Kejriwal ji had written a letter demanding that the volunteers who have been removed from work should not be fired, but action should be taken against those people who have not received their salaries because of them. CM said that when this dispute was going on, she was the Revenue Minister of Delhi and she had also written letters to the LG several times demanding to pay her salary.
playing with girls’ safety
CM said that due to removal of marshals from buses, women are not feeling safe while traveling. When marshals were deployed in buses, women felt more safe. Accusing the LG of politics, the CM said that the LG is playing with the safety of women just for the sake of politics.
Atishi said about the bus marshals that they have been struggling for the last one year. During this time, these people also took police batons. Aam Aadmi Party has always supported him and will continue to support him in future too.
LG is postponing the matter
Atishi said that Leader of Opposition Vijendra Gupta came to meet him one day and asked him to just get the proposal for appointment of marshals passed by the Cabinet, and he would get it passed by the LG. Even after leave, I called a cabinet meeting and got this proposal passed, but Vijendra Gupta went back on his promise and started procrastinating.
After this the LG said that the Delhi government should make a policy on this, but when we started making the policy, the transport officials told us that the LG will make the policy on this. Even after this, on November 10, we called a meeting of all ministers and on November 13 sent a proposal that until the policy is made, bus marshals should be kept with immediate effect. But LG has not taken any decision on this yet.
Offer to Vijendra Gupta
Delhi CM gave a unique offer to Leader of Opposition Vijendra Gupta and said that if he gets this proposal passed by LG, then Aam Aadmi Party will not field any candidate against him in the assembly elections. CM said that for him the issue of reinstatement of bus marshals is more than one seat. Atishi said that if Vijendra Gupta does this, she herself will campaign for him in the elections.
