Railways changed travel rules for children
Keeping in mind the convenience of passengers, Indian Railways has made major changes in the rules related to ticket booking for children. Now it has become easier than ever for parents or guardians to travel with their small children. According to the new rules, children below 5 years of age can travel without a ticket, but if they require a separate seat or berth, it will be mandatory to pay the full fare.
Big relief for children below 5 years
While giving relief to small children, Railways has clarified that if the child is younger than 5 years and does not want a separate seat, then he can be taken in the train without a ticket. That means parents can travel with the child sitting in their lap. However, if for any reason a separate berth or seat is booked for a child, the full adult fare will have to be paid.
Special rules for children aged 5 to 12 years
Railways has made separate rules for children between 5 to 12 years of age. If children of this age do not require a seat or berth and select ‘No Seat/No Berth (NOSB)’ option during ticket booking, they will get tickets at half price. But if a seat or berth is demanded for a child, the full adult fare will have to be paid for it. Apart from this, Railways has also made it clear that children above 12 years of age will be considered adults, and will have to pay the normal fare on their tickets.
Keep these things in mind while booking tickets
According to the new rules of Railways, it is very important to enter the correct age of the child while booking tickets. Many passengers mistakenly write the wrong age, which can lead to the ticket being invalidated and a fine also being imposed. Therefore, while filling the ticket, write the correct date of birth and age of the child. It is also important to carry the child’s age proof, such as Aadhar card or birth certificate, during the journey. This may have to be shown to the officer during any investigation.
