‘Captain Kohli’ will return in IPL 2025! Virat wants to become the captain of RCB again

There is a constant stir regarding the retention of players for the IPL 2025 season, but amidst all this, the most shocking and pleasing news for the Royal Challengers Bangalore fans is coming. Virat Kohli, who was the captain of Bengaluru in IPL till three seasons ago, can be seen leading the team once again. This big claim has come out before the IPL retention deadline, according to which Kohli has made up his mind to captain Bengaluru again. Now whether this will happen or not will be known only after the mega auction to be held in November.

Kohli expressed his intentions- report

This claim regarding Virat Kohli’s captaincy has been made in a video of ESPN-Cricinfo, where talks were being held about IPL retention. In this video, it has been told that Virat Kohli has expressed his heartfelt feelings to the RCB management and has expressed his desire to captain the team once again. Kohli was the captain of RCB for 9 consecutive seasons but due to not getting title success, he resigned after the 2021 season. Since then, Faf Du Plessis took charge of the team for three consecutive seasons.

RCB is looking for a captain

The chances of Bengaluru retaining Duplessis for the next season appear to be very slim. In such a situation, it is being continuously claimed that RCB is considering making one of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant or Shreyas Iyer the captain of the team through mega auction. In this too, Rahul’s name is at the forefront, who had spent a few seasons in Bengaluru in the beginning of his career. But now with this latest report all the claims seem to be proved wrong. If Kohli has really expressed his desire for captaincy, then it is unlikely that RCB will refuse him because despite his captaincy record, Kohli is the identity of the franchise.

Could not win title in 9 years

If we talk about Virat’s captaincy record in IPL, he completely took over the responsibility of captaincy in the 2013 season but he could not win the title even once for the team. Under his captaincy, the franchise played the final only once in 2016, where it lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kohli captained in a total of 143 matches, out of which the team won only 66 and lost 70. As far as the last 3 seasons are concerned, under the captaincy of Duplessis, the team reached the playoffs in 2022 and 2024 but the team missed it in 2023.
