Brad Binder reveals a ‘disaster’ at the start of the Sprint race

The best Red Bull KTM rider in the Sprint race of the MotoGP Malaysian GP was Brad Binder. He crossed the line in seventh place, showing himself to be more competitive than on Friday in Sepang.

The South African summarized his work up to qualifying: ‘It was a better day than yesterday. I tried to work for the race in the FP2 session, so I’ve put a lot of fuel and a tried to put a lot of laps on the tyres. I tried not to stop, so that was pretty good. It was nice to cross through the Q1 to Q2. I tried to put in a really good lap in the Q2, but I didn’t have much more than I was able to put in in the Q1’.

Binder believes he only made one significant mistake during the Sprint race: ‘I got a decent start, I passed a few guys early on. I made a big mistake, just dropping my ride height device out of turn 2, so I had it down all the way to turn 3, which was a bit of a disaster at the beginning. But after that was a pretty clean race. I tried my best to go with the guys in front of me, but I didn’t quite have the pace. My goal for tomorrow is to try and clean things up a little bit, and I think we can do a much better job’.

Regarding how he improved between Friday and Saturday, the #33 explained: ‘Yesterday we’ve got a lot of question marks, some areas of the bike where we wanted to test. Today was our opportunity to try them all. So, I went out with a few different configurations. It was clear that the best one we have is the one I’ve been using, so today we just started like that and then we just did some fine-tuning throughout the day’.
