The series, originally titled Influenza, features a talented crew, co-written by Han Jin-won, known for his work on the Oscar-winning film Parasite, and Ji Ho-jin, recognized for the Disney+ series A Shop for Killers. The show marks the directorial debut of Yoon Sung-hyun, acclaimed for his films Bleak Night and Time to Hunt. Filming has already been completed, and the show is set for release in January 2025, although specific dates and teasers are yet to be revealed.

This Kdrama follows Jisoo’s earlier acting ventures, including her significant role in the 2021 series Snowdrop and a minor part in Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman. Jisoo is also set to star in the movie adaptation of the popular webtoon Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint.

In recent months, Jisoo has faced some criticism for prioritizing her acting career over music, especially with no new music releases in 2024. However, she has expressed her excitement about her upcoming projects and reassured fans that she is working on new content. Newtopia promises to be an exciting addition to the Kdrama landscape, blending romance and horror as it showcases Jisoo and Park Jeong Min’s performances.
