Seemanchal has given a big blow to AIMIM in Bihar elections 2025. Leading on just two seats, down from five, while NDA has a strong lead on 18 seats. AIMIM’s influence seems to be waning rapidly in the Muslim belt.
Patna. The trends of Bihar elections 2025 have given the biggest blow to Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM. The Seemanchal region which AIMIM considered to be the backbone of its political strength, this time the graph of the party seems to be falling rapidly. In 2020, there was a resounding victory on five seats, but in 2025, the same seats have brought big problems for AIMIM. According to the trends till 10:40 am, AIMIM is ahead in only two seats in the entire Seemanchal. This decline raises serious questions about the political future direction of the party. Seemanchal – Araria, Katihar, Kishanganj and Purnia – a region with a total of 24 assembly seats, has a large Muslim population in the state. This has been the strongest base of vote bank of AIMIM. But this time the picture is completely different.
Why did AIMIM’s graph suddenly fall in Seemanchal?
AIMIM is leading in Balrampur of Katihar and Baisi seat of Purnia. But the thing to note is that Balrampur is not the seat where the party had won in 2020. In contrast, Amour, Bahadurganj, Jokihat and Kochadhaman – all four seats where AIMIM had won last time – this time the party is trailing. The biggest shock is that AIMIM’s strong face Akhtarul Iman also seems to be losing from Amour seat. This is an indication that there has been a big change in the politics of Seemanchal in the last five years.
Have Muslim votes gone away from AIMIM?
Seemanchal is a Muslim-dominated area, where AIMIM got strong support in 2020. But this time the inclination of votes seems to be going in the other direction. Is this a strong strategy of NDA? Or has the local equation on MGB seats changed? This question has now become a big puzzle for election analysts.
How did NDA reach record lead in Seemanchal?
While NDA had won 12 seats in Seemanchal in 2020, in 2025 this figure may reach 18 seats as per the trends. This is a clear indication that the strategy of BJP-JDU has been very effective in the area this time. JDU seems to be getting the biggest benefit. Last time 4 seats, now this figure is likely to reach 9. BJP is also ahead on 7 seats.
Why did the Grand Alliance (MGB) lag behind?
- MGB is ahead on just 4 seats.
- RJD on only 1 seat
- Congress reduced from 5 to 3
- CPI(ML) reduced from 1 to 0
This clearly shows that this time the opposition has got less trust from the public in Seemanchal.
Is this the end of AIMIM’s Seemanchal chapter?
After the 2020 elections, four winning MLAs of AIMIM joined RJD and only Akhtarul Iman was left in the party. But in 2025, the seat of faith also seems to be slipping.
- It is clear from this that AIMIM’s influence in Seemanchal is decreasing rapidly.
- This time the trends of Seemanchal have become the biggest story of Bihar politics.
- AIMIM has reduced from five to two seats, NDA’s huge lead has changed the entire equation and MGB seems to be lagging behind.
- This is a clear indication that Seemanchal is no longer following the old vote pattern – the political atmosphere here has completely changed.
