According to mythological belief, on the day of Baikunth Chaturdashi, Lord Vishnu himself goes to Varanasi (Kashi) and worships Lord Shiva. According to the story, on this day Lord Vishnu had resolved to anoint Shivalinga with thousands of lotuses. When one lotus fell short, he offered his lotus eye. Pleased with this amazing devotion and dedication, Lord Shiva blessed Vishnu to become the ruler of Vaikuntha world. Therefore this day was called Baikuntha Chaturdashi because on this day the door of Baikuntha is considered open for the devotees.
