Babar Azam was told in India to leave the captaincy of Pakistan and he accepted this.

On one hand, Team India is celebrating reaching the final in the World Cup 2023, while on the other hand, there is a different mourning in Pakistan. Pakistan’s performance in the World Cup was poor and it could not make it to the semi-finals. The side-effect of poor performance in the World Cup first fell on Babar Azam and he resigned from the captaincy on 15 November. It is being told that PCB wanted Babar to continue captaining the Test team but Babar had made up his mind to leave the captaincy. Now after Babar left the captaincy, Rameez Raja has said a big thing.

Rameez Raja said that Babar Azam had made up his mind in India itself that he would leave the captaincy after the World Cup. Rameez said that Babar Azam did not feel like captaincy. Rameez said that he had also advised Babar to leave the captaincy. This is the reason why Babar left the captaincy first as soon as he reached Pakistan.

Shaheen, Shan Masood got the responsibility

After Babar Azam, different captains of two formats of Pakistan have been elected. Shaheen Afridi has been made the captain of the T20 team, while Shan Masood has been given the captaincy of the Test team. The captain of the ODI format has not been announced yet because Pakistan has to play its next ODI series in November 2024.

Babar’s performance as captain

Under the captaincy of Babar Azam, the Pakistani team reached the number 1 ranking in ODIs. He commanded the team in 133 matches and Pakistan won 78 matches and lost 43. Babar’s captaincy can be criticized only for not winning tournaments. They failed to win T20 World Cup 2021, T20 World Cup 2022, Asia Cup 2022, Asia Cup 2023. Now even in the World Cup 2023, under his leadership the team was eliminated from the league round itself.
