Assam Premier League Offers ₹50 Lakhs to Champions, ₹25 Lakhs for Runners-Up

Guwahati, August 21: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has announced the prize money for the inaugural Assam Premier League (APL). The winning team will receive ₹50 lakhs, while the runners-up will be awarded ₹25 lakhs.

This announcement comes at a crucial time as the state’s premier T20 tournament enters its knockout phase. After a competitive league stage, the top four teams-Guwahati Royals, Dibrugarh Warriors, Barak Legends, and Barpeta Braves-are set to clash in the semifinals on Friday.

Teams such as Jorhat Stallions, Tezpur Titans, Nagaon Rangers, and Charidev Sunrisers have been eliminated from the competition after failing to qualify for the knockout stage. The two winning teams will face off for the championship title on August 23.

Organized by the ACA, this tournament features eight franchises competing in 43 matches over a 23-day schedule. According to the format, each team faces every other team once during the league phase, with scouts from major IPL franchises keeping an eye on promising players for the upcoming auction later this year.

Designed to provide a high-profile platform for emerging players and expand the talent pool for Assam’s white-ball tournaments and age-group teams, the league will crown its first champion at Barsapara Cricket Stadium on Sunday, following a one-day break.

Notable players like former Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy captain Danish Das, wicketkeeper-batsman Sumit Ghadigaonkar, and Shibshankar Roy have been the highlights of this tournament.

It is worth mentioning that Indian batting all-rounder Riyan Parag, hailing from Guwahati, did not participate in the inaugural edition due to recovery from shoulder surgery following an injury while captaining Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026.
