Kartik Aaryan and Mammootty have been announced as winners of Best Actor at the 72nd National Film Awards. The names were declared on July 18 by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the National Media Centre in New Delhi. While Kartik received the honour for Hindi film Chandu Champion, Mammootty for Malayalam film Bramayugam. The two actors are shared winners, as the full list was also revealed. Botht the movies released in 2024, and their performances have now been recognised at the biggest awards of the country that appreciates excellence in films.

Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan stars Kartik Aaryan in the titular role as India’s first Paralympics gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar.
Meanwhile, Rahul Sadasivan directed Bramayugam features Mammootty in the main role. The movie revolves around sacred mystery, myth and folklore of Kerala.
The announcement was made at the National Media Centre in New Delhi and streamed live on PIB India’s YouTube channel.
