Anne has been on a stellar maternity style run throughout this press tour, but this Prada gown is the first look that hasn’t won me over.
From the empire waist down, I love the Grecian goddess mood. The fluid pleated skirt moved beautifully on the red carpet, and it feels light, elegant, and entirely appropriate for the occasion.
It’s the embellished bodice where the look loses me.
The moment I saw it, I thought, Prada. That sculptural crystal embroidery is unmistakably the house’s signature, and while I appreciate that it gives the gown an instantly recognisable identity, it interrupts the softness of everything happening below. Rather than flowing naturally into the skirt, it feels as though two different ideas have been combined into one.
Perhaps that was the intention, but I couldn’t help wishing Prada had fully embraced the ethereal goddess direction instead. Anne has made maternity dressing look effortless throughout this press tour, and I don’t think this bodice does justice to the elegance of the silhouette beneath it.
