The Supreme Court has asked comedian Samay Raina to pay Rs 3 lakh as a fine for violating court orders in the case connected to insensitive statements that were made on his show about persons with disabilities.
According to Bar and Bench, the court ordered: “We have reason to believe that Samay Raina has taken the court for a ride and has brazenly violated the orders of this court. The misconduct is further compounded by stating that an affidavit is filed when nothing is on record. Thus, we impose a cost of Rs. 3 lakh to be deposited within two weeks.”
Last year, a petition was filed by Cure SMA India Foundation accusing the comedian of making insensitive statements about the high cost of treatment for Spinal Muscular Atrophy. It was also alleged that Raina mocked a person with such a disability.
