Despite this, Dilip Kumar was willing to marry Madhubala, but he asked Madhubala to cut ties with her father. However, the actress wanted Dilip to simply apologize to her father so they could move on.

Neither Dilip Kumar nor Madhubala bent. They broke up, but due to prior commitments, they still had to shoot the intensely romantic scenes for Mughal-e-Azam (1960) while barely being on speaking terms.

Madhubala, who was born with a congenital heart defect (a hole in her heart), married singer Kishore Kumar in 1960, but her health rapidly deteriorated. She spent her final years bedridden and lonely, eventually passing away in 1969 at the young age of 36, leaving behind a legacy of unmatched beauty and profound sorrow.

On the other hand, Dilip Kumar married veteran actress Saira Banu on October 11, 1966 and remained together for 55 years until his passing on July 7, 2021.
