Shreyas Iyer fails to win over the trust of selectors again; loses his wicket for just 25 runs in the semi-finals of Duleep trophy

, the 30-year-old batsman who is currently a phenomenon in the ODI format for India, was the talk of the town when his name was not announced in the squad list for the Asia Cup which is set to commence on 9th September.

Despite his consistent performances as Captain of Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 the selectors did not feel Iyer was the right choice in the 17 member squad India announced for the prestigious tournament.

Iyer had a brilliant opportunity to catch the eyes of the board for the India vs England Test series and try to get in the test squad of the Indian team. However, Iyer missed out on a chance for nomination as he lost his wicket for just 25 runs in 28 balls in the semi-finals of the Duleep trophy. Iyer represented the West zone in the tournament and came in to play at the number 5 position for the team following a brilliant partnership between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Aarya Desai of 82 runs. Iyer came in and took on the aggressive approach as he does often with the white-ball. Iyer scored 16 in 13 balls faced from Dubey and smashed Khalil Ahmed for a boundary.

Yashasvi Jaiswal returns to the pavilion inside the span of three deliveries

However, Khalil Ahmed bounced back and with immense spirit he claimed the wicket of Shreyas Iyer. Iyer was left in disappointment as it was a golden ticket for him to pave the way into the longest format of the game. However, another talented younger Yashasvi Jaiswal who was not selected for the Asia Cup missed his opportunity to score big and was knocked out by Khali Ahmed inside the span of three balls.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been a consistent performer for India as he scored a total of 411 runs against England and has had a decent outing in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals. Though he was not selected in the squad for Asia Cup, he has been named in the reserves for the same. He will be looking to bounce back and continue to get his basics right to permanently seal his spot in all formats of the game.
