In three days, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Malayalam thriller “I, Nobody” earned more than the three-day opening domestic net collection of “Vilayath Buddha” (Rs 3.50 crore), according to Sacnilk’s data. “I, Nobody” is directed by Nissam Basheer, whose previous psychological thriller, “Rorschach”, had a slightly stronger launch due to the Mammootty factor. Reports show that “I, Nobody” is demonstrating nearly identical, stable occupancy during night shows. Worldwide, it has grossed Rs 7 crore in three days.
A three-day Rs 4.5 crore collection for an experimental thriller with mainstream sensibilities —”I, Nobody” is more mainstream than “Rorschach” — is quite impressive, especially considering that the film opened with less noise, despite Prithviraj’s wide promotions. Moreover, the film was met with largely mixed responses, with many viewers praising the first half but dismissing the second.
Written by Sameer Abdul (“Rorschach”), the film, which has Prithviraj Productions and E4 Experiments involved as co-producers, was released on July 9 (Thursday). It earned Rs 2.20 crore net in India on that day, with the majority of collections coming from Kerala (Rs 2.30 crore gross). On Day 2 (Friday), it collected Rs 2.22 crore net in India, indicating a slight 0.9% growth compared to its opening day. On Day 3 (Saturday), it netted Rs 1.13 crore in India (a 9.6% drop from the previous day’s total). It is expected to pick up on Day 4 (Sunday).
“I, Nobody” also features Parvathy Thiruvothu in a lead role as Prithviraj’s wife, alongside Ashokan and Shankar Ramakrishnan as two integral characters. Others include Nishanth Sagar and Hakkim Shahjahan. Jakes Bejoy composed the soundtrack, while Dinesh Purushothaman handled the camera.
