Kangana Ranaut’s Queen 2 ‘Unauthorised Sequel’, Sued For Rs 250 Crore: Report

Kangana Ranaut’s Queen 2 has landed in legal trouble. According to the latest report, the makers of Queen have accused JioStar of unauthorised use and infringement of the intellectual property (IP).

As per a news portal’s report, Phantom Studios has sued the production house backing Queen 2 for Rs 250 crore. The matter has now reached the Bombay High Court after multiple attempts to resolve the case outside the establishment. As of now, the makers of Queen 2 have not reacted to the allegations. The matter resurfaced after the film recently wrapped its shoot.

Queen 2 is unauthorised sequel, claims production house

According to Mid-Day’s report, Phantom Studios allegedly claimed that is an ‘unauthorised sequel’. The production house approached the Bombay High Court after ‘repeated communication’ about the alleged infringement and ‘settlement discussions’ between the concerned parties.

What is Queen 2’s legal matter all about?

A source close to the development told the portal that JioStar’s non-action is what has led to Phantom Studios suing them for infringement. “There was even a public notice put out and multiple communications sent to Vikas and JioStar as well, informing them before this step was taken,” said the source. An insider reportedly informed the portal that Phantom Studios was prompted to take the legal route after learning about Queen 2’s wrap.

The report further stated that the public notice was issued by Phantom Studio in April and confirmed owning 50 per cent of Queen’s IP, including the right to make sequels.
