India’s T20 Squad for Zimbabwe: Surprising Omissions and New Faces

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team has announced its squad for the upcoming T20 series in Zimbabwe, set to take place on July 23, 25, and 27 in Harare.

Notably, World Cup-winning wicketkeeper Sanju Samson has been left out of the lineup, while pacers Yash Thakur and Ashok Sharma have received their first call-ups.

Samson’s recent performance has been underwhelming, leading to his replacement by the promising Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during the second T20I against England in the ongoing five-match series.

The Kerala batsman struggled in his last three outings, failing to make an impact against Ireland and in the opening T20I against England at Durham.

In his absence, the selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, has included Prabhsimran Singh, another newcomer, as a wicketkeeper from Punjab.

Additionally, fast bowler Mayank Yadav returns to the squad for the first time since 2024.

For the ODIs against England, Shivam Dube has been brought in to replace the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy.

The finalized squad for the T20 series includes: Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma (Vice-Captain), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Rinku Singh, Harsh Dubey, Varun Chakaravarathy, Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, Mayank Yadav, and Prabhsimran Singh (WK).
