Oppo Reno 16 vs Xiaomi 17T: Which offers better value?

The premium mid-range smartphone segment has become incredibly competitive, and two phones that stand out right now are the newly launched Oppo Reno 16 and the Xiaomi 17T. By the way, both devices are priced almost the same.

The Oppo Reno 16 starts at Rs 61,999, while the Xiaomi 17T starts at Rs 59,999. So naturally, the question is whether spending a little extra on the Oppo actually gets you a faster smartphone or if Xiaomi delivers better value. If you look at them side by side on paper, you can see both devices target very different audiences. The Oppo Reno 16 focuses on design, battery life, and cameras, while the Xiaomi 17T leans more towards performance. The Reno 16 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, whereas the Xiaomi 17T comes with the more powerful MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra processor. But as we’ve seen this time and again, specifications will never tell you the real story.

To find out which phone performs better in day to day usage, we compared both devices in real-world tests, including a 4K video export test, WiFi speed test, BGMI gameplay, display comparison and battery specifications. Here’s how both smartphones performed.

Oppo Reno 16 vs Xiaomi 17T: 4K video export test

Both the Oppo Reno 16 and the Xiaomi 17T were given the same one-minute 4K video to export.

On the VN app, the Xiaomi 17T completed the export in just 35 seconds, while the Oppo Reno 16 took 1 minute and 5 seconds to finish the same task.

That’s a massive difference in a real-world scenario. The Dimensity 8500 Ultra puts down the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, delivering nearly twice the export speed. If you create content and you have to edit the videos on your phone, then the Xiaomi 17T will definitely save your time.

Oppo Reno 16 vs Xiaomi 17T: WiFi speed test

In this device, we connected both smartphones to the same WIFi network and run the test multiple times.

The Oppo Reno 16 recorded a download speed of 7.8Mbps, while the Xiaomi 17T got 73Mbps on the same WiFI network.

That’s almost a 10-times difference from Oppo. Throughout our testing, the Xiaomi consistently maintained and delivered higher download speeds.

Oppo Reno 16 and Xiaomi 17T: BGMI gaming performance

In the BGMI gaming test, both devices were much closer than in the other tests. Both the Oppo Reno 16 and the Xiaomi 17T support 90fps gameplay in BGMI on the Smooth and Extreme+ settings.

In terms of gameplay, both devices maintained stable frame rates without any noticeable lag or frame drops.

Although Xiaomi offers a more powerful chipset on paper, it should support 120fps gameplay in BGMI. However, the overall gaming experience remained smooth on both smartphones. Casual as well as competitive gamers will not be able to notice a significant difference in the gameplay.

Oppo Reno 16 vs Xiaomi 17T: Display

Oppo Reno 16 features a 6.23-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Xiaomi 17T comes with a slightly larger 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED display, also with a 120Hz refresh rate.

The panels of both devices are sharp, vibrant and smooth enough for everyday use, whether you’re scrolling through social media, watching videos or gaming. However, I prefer Oppo’s display, it gives you that extra punch. And I felt the display was a bit brighter than the Xiaomi 17T.

The larger screen on the Xiaomi provides a slightly more immersive viewing experience, while the Oppo’s display is more compact and you can use it with your hand as well.

Oppo Reno 16 vs Xiaomi 17T: Battery and charging

The Oppo Reno 16 packs a 6,700mAh battery paired with 80W fast charging. The Xiaomi 17T packs a 6,500mAh battery with 67W fast charging.

On paper, Oppo has a slight advantage in this department. The bigger battery should help it last a little longer during heavy usage, and the faster charger will take less time to charge the device.

If battery life is your priority, the Oppo Reno 16 has an advantage here.

Oppo Reno 16 vs Xiaomi 17T: Which phone wins?

The price difference between the Oppo Reno 16 and the Xiaomi 17T is only around Rs 2,000, so the final verdict becomes clear.

The Xiaomi 17T comfortably won the real-world test. It exported the same 4K video in just half the time and delivered better Wifi speeds. Gaming performance remained good on both devices.

The Oppo Reno 16 does strike back with a slightly bigger battery, faster charging support, and a brighter display, making it a better choice for users who priorities battery over performance.

However, if your priority is getting the best performance for around Rs 60,000, the Xiaomi 17T offers a better overall value.
