Japan’s Rika Fujiwara sealed her second title after defeating Vietnam’s Pei Chuan Kao in a gripping three-game women’s singles final at the on Saturday, July 4.
The victory cemented Fujiwara’s growing stature on the PPA Tour Asia circuit. Earlier this season, she made history by becoming the first Japanese player to win a PPA Tour Asia title when she claimed the Pro Women’s Singles gold medal at the Macao Open.
Fujiwara produced a series of commanding performances throughout the Tokyo Open en route to the summit clash. She opened her campaign with a victory over Danni-Elle Townsend in the first round before maintaining her momentum in the knockout stages.
In the quarterfinals, the Japanese star overcame Hsieh Yu-chieh to book her place in the last four. She then delivered one of her most convincing displays of the tournament in the semifinals, defeating Lingwei Kong in straight games to secure a spot in the final.
In the final, she found herself up against Pei Chuan Kao. The contest developed into a thrilling three-game battle, with both players fighting hard to get their hands on the title. Fujiwara, however, held her nerve in the decisive moments to emerge victorious and lift the women’s singles trophy on home soil.
Pei’s efforts fall short
Pei also enjoyed an impressive run to the final, overcoming a challenging draw. She began her campaign with a first-round victory over Yufei Long before defeating Andie Dikosavljevic in the quarterfinals.
The Vietnamese player then booked her place in the title clash by defeating Kiora Kunimoto in another hard-fought three-game semifinal, underlining her consistency throughout the tournament.
Despite falling short in the final, Pei’s run to the championship match highlighted her strong form and ability to perform under pressure. Meanwhile, Fujiwara’s latest title reinforced her position as one of the leading players on the PPA Tour Asia circuit.
Having already etched her name into history with her breakthrough title at the Macao Open, Fujiwara has now added another significant milestone by winning the Tokyo Open, continuing her impressive rise in professional pickleball.
