Kriti Sanon got candid about one of the biggest talking points surrounding her latest film Cocktail 2 during her appearance on Baatein Dil Se. Speaking to Times Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar, the National Award-winning actress addressed inevitable comparisons with Deepika Padukone, whose portrayal of Veronica in the 2012 hit is regarded of Bollywood’s most iconic and fresh performances. While acknowledging that comparisons were expected from the moment she signed the film, Kriti revealed why she never let them affect her performance. She also praised Deepika’s memorable portrayal generously.

During the conversation on With Navika Kumar, Kriti admitted that she anticipated comparisons as soon as she agreed to be part of the sequel. The actress said, “Kabhi bhi agar aap sequel karte ho kisi bhi film ka ya franchise ka next part karte ho where all the actors have completely changed and the characters are also different, you are bound to be compared because especially when someone really left a big mark in the previous one.”
The actress went on to acknowledge the lasting impact Deepika Padukone created with Veronica in the original Cocktail. According to Kriti, “Deepika did (leave a big mark). I think she was brilliant in Cocktail. And it also started a new journey for her. It was kind of a milestone for her and we remember Veronica as a character.”

However, Kriti stressed that despite public expectations, she never carried the burden of recreating Veronica because the screenplay itself made it clear that her character was entirely different. “I never took that pressure on because the moment I heard the script, I knew that Ally was not Veronica or was not even trying to be Veronica,” revealed Kriti.

further spoke in detail on how audiences may notice certain similarities on the surface, but the two women are vastly different once their personalities and journeys are explored.
“Yes, both are extremely free-spirited and very modern and bad in their own ways. But as personalities, they were very different. They have had very different upbringings. What they do in the film, their journey in the film and their arc in the film is so different,” Kriti stated.
