Michael Kayode Signs Six-year Brentford Contract With Extension Option

Brentford have secured Michael Kayode on a new six-year contract, with an option for another year. The full-back’s deal follows a strong Premier League campaign, where Brentford under Keith Andrews finished ninth.

The club missed European football only on goal difference, highlighting how small the gap was.

Kayode first arrived from Fiorentina in January 2025, joining on loan before making the move permanent. Since then, Kayode has played 56 matches in all competitions for Brentford. The right-back has become a regular starter and key part of the team’s structure on both flanks.

Across the last Premier League season, Kayode featured in every Brentford league game except one. The defender became known for long throws that created danger in attacking areas. Kayode produced 16 chances from set-pieces, putting the full-back among the league’s most effective dead-ball players.

Only nine Premier League players created more chances from dead balls, with Bruno Fernandes leading that group. Kayode also built a reputation as arguably the division’s standout long-throw specialist. Brentford’s strong league finish owed much to these set-piece threats, which often pushed opponents back.

Kayode has represented Italy at under-21 level, adding further status to Brentford’s decision. The defender’s international youth experience supports Brentford’s belief in long-term development. The club view this contract as a step that keeps an important asset tied to the project.

Head coach Keith Andrews praised Kayode’s influence, highlighting importance beyond raw numbers. Andrews emphasised the player’s attitude, energy and fit within Brentford’s daily training. The new contract underlines shared commitment between Brentford and Kayode ahead of further Premier League campaigns.

Andrews said: Michael had an amazing season last year. He epitomised everything good that we do. His development and evolution has been really, really impressive. Michael is someone that we love working with every single day, who comes in with such an enthusiastic demeanour, and is a joy to be around and to coach. We’re absolutely delighted that he wants to stay because we love having him here, and this new contract is absolutely deserved.

With the deal confirmed, Brentford keep a defender who offers reliability, specialist long throws and set-piece quality. The agreement secures continuity for Andrews as Brentford aim to close the small gap to European qualification. Kayode’s defensive work, delivery and attitude are expected to remain central to those plans.
