“‘We Used Our Experience And Got The Job Done’: Sciver-Brunt, Knight Fire England Into Women’s T20 World Cup Final”

New Delhi: Nat Sciver-Brunt marked her return from injury with a match-winning innings as England stormed into the final of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup with a commanding 40-run victory over South Africa at The Oval.

After being asked to bat first, England endured a nightmare start, slipping to 23 for 3 inside the opening four overs as South Africa’s pace attack struck early. However, Sciver-Brunt steadied the innings with a composed and aggressive knock of 75, combining with former captain Heather Knight for a crucial fourth-wicket partnership worth 133 runs.

Knight contributed an equally valuable 58 as the experienced duo guided England to a competitive total of 169 for 5 after recovering from their early collapse. The partnership proved decisive, shifting momentum firmly in England’s favour and putting South Africa under pressure in the chase.

South Africa’s pursuit never gathered momentum as England’s bowlers maintained control throughout the innings. The Proteas eventually finished on 129 for 8, falling 40 runs short of the target.

England struck early in the chase with the dismissal of captain Laura Wolvaardt, while key wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals. All-rounder Marizanne Kapp was unable to make an impact with the bat, and despite a fighting half-century from opener Tazmin Brits, South Africa struggled to keep pace with the required run rate.

Earlier, fast bowlers Shabnim Ismail and Kapp had rattled England’s top order, but the resilience shown by Sciver-Brunt and Knight ultimately proved the difference.

England will now face arch-rivals Australia in Sunday’s final at Lord’s, with both teams entering the title clash unbeaten after winning all six of their matches in the tournament.
