‘Lock Upp S2’: Shreya Kalra Confronts 52-Year-Old Ram Kapoor Over Gang R*pe Joke, Later Apologises for Her Tone (Watch Video)

A heated exchange unfolded early in the second season of the reality show Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa when contestant Shreya Kalra called out veteran actor Ram Kapoor for a highly controversial remark he made in the past. Kapoor, who is also a participant in the show, faced questions regarding his comparison of a strenuous work schedule to ‘feeling gang-raped’. The incident, which has reignited public debate, occurred on the Netflix-streamed show, now hosted by Riteish Deshmukh and Farah Khan.

What Did Ram Kapoor Say and How Did Shreya Kalra React?

The confrontation stemmed from a past comment by Ram Kapoor, where he likened his demanding promotional routine to the horrific act of gang rape. This remark had previously drawn significant backlash across social media. During an episode of Lock Upp S2, hosts Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh revisited the controversy, noting that many of Kapoor’s fans were deeply disturbed by his words. Riteish Deshmukh emphasised the social responsibility public figures carry, given the influence their comments have on audiences.

In response, Ram Kapoor expressed regret over the incident, yet maintained that the remark was part of his “long-standing sense of humour.” He articulated, “This is my sense of humour, and it has always been like this. This can never be changed. I learnt a lot that day because I was sitting with children of my kids’ age. But it will not make me serious. You should learn and move on. You should not lose your smile, love, laughter. Nothing is worth losing that.”

Shreya Kalra, however, found Kapoor’s explanation deeply insincere and lashed out at him without hesitation. She challenged the appropriateness of joking about such a severe crime, highlighting the profound trauma experienced by survivors of sexual violence.

Kalra directly questioned Kapoor, stating, “You are 52, you are my father’s age. How are you still learning and moving on at this age? Using gangrape as a joke it is not a joke. Do you understand what girls go through when things like this happen to them? Instead of taking accountability you are saying that you will learn and move on. You have such a big platform. There are so many people watching you. You need to take accountability. You are 52, you are still learning. That’s a big shock to me.”

Kapoor remained calm throughout Kalra’s outburst, reiterating his hope to continue learning throughout his life and acknowledging that individuals are entitled to their own views. He also mentioned having previously accepted responsibility for his statement, describing himself as “guilty as charged” in earlier interviews. The intense exchange visibly shocked other contestants present. Reports also indicate that Farah Khan later criticised Shreya Kalra for her “age-shaming” remarks towards Ram Kapoor.

Shreya Kalra’s Apology

While the initial confrontation between Shreya Kalra and Ram Kapoor has garnered significant media attention, Shreya Kalra later apologised to Ram Kapoor for her tone during their heated exchange.
