Ace filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani’s films, especially his iconic hits 3 Idiots, Munna Bhai, and PK, enjoy a separate fan base. Even years after their release, these films continue to receive immense love from audiences. Not only do they have incredible rewatch value, but they have also remained relevant over the years. So much so that fans have long been demanding sequels. While Hirani has already confirmed that Munna Bhai 3 is in the works, an official announcement and promo are still awaited. Amid the excitement, the filmmaker has revealed that he once considered an ambitious crossover featuring PK, 3 Idiots, and Munna Bhai.
Rajkumar Hirani On Why Munna Bhai 3 Is Taking Time
Talking about why Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi’s film is still in the early stages, told Zoom, “It anyway takes time, irrespective whether it’s a sequel or any other film. I take time in the scripts because woh achcha nahi bane toh you can’t go on the sets and enjoy it. You might have a successful film, that’s another story, but you have to try it to make a good film. With Munna Bhai 2, which people loved so much, you can’t make something which is inferior.”
However, he once again assured fans that it is indeed happening!
Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, PK Crossover
He also revealed, “We’ve even attempted to combine characters from the films.” Arshard, who was also part of the conversation, quipped, “You’ve become that desperate now.”
Hirani laughed and added, “We’ve tried to combine Munna Bhai, and PK. Par woh laga ki aur mushkil hojayega.”
“Avengers ban jayegi,” reacted Warsi.
Talking about his process, he said, “See, what happens is every morning you get up, try to write something and ideas keep coming, you work on it for a while and then say chhodo, aage badho.”
Just imagine Aamir Khan’s alien PK crossing paths with Ranchoddas Chanchad from 3 Idiots, alongside Sanjay Dutt’s beloved Munna Bhai. Throw in fan-favourites Circuit, Farhan, and Raju, and it would have been one of Bollywood’s most unforgettable crossovers. For now, however, this epic crossover exists only as an idea.
Currently, Hirani is gearing up for the release of Pritam And Pedro. Directed by Avinash Arun, the series also stars Vikrant Massey, Mona Singh and Boman Irani. It is set to release on JioHotstar on July 3.
