Like Virat, now another player has ended the century drought. This player scored a century in Test after 630 days i.e. 20 months. This player is none other than South African captain Temba Bavuma. He scored a century in the second innings of the Test match being played against Sri Lanka at Kingsmead Derby.
Temba Bavuma ends his wait for a century
The South African team has completely captured Sri Lanka in this match. The biggest reason for this is Temba Bavuma. He had performed very well in the first innings and maintained his rhythm in the second innings as well. Temba Bavuma completed his century in 202 balls in this innings. This is his third century in Test format. Earlier, he had scored a century against West Indies in March 2023. Since then, not a single century was seen with the bat from Temba Bavuma.
Temba Bavuma also played a captaincy innings in the first innings of the match. He scored 70 runs facing 117 balls, which included 9 fours and 1 six. Apart from Temba Bavuma, no South African batsman could touch the 30-run mark in this innings. It was on the basis of this innings of Bavuma that South Africa scored 191 runs in the first innings, after which Sri Lanka’s first innings was bundled out for 42 runs. Apart from Temba Bavuma, Tristan Stubbs also scored a century in this innings. He played an innings of 122 runs in 221 balls. This innings included 9 fours and 2 sixes. This was the second century of Tristan Stubbs’s Test career. On the strength of these two players, the South African team has scored more than 300 runs in its second innings.
